The Hand in control

Halfway around the world, a couple was about to embark on a trip that would change their lives. They would soon meet their future second child. But before they left, they searched the internet. They found a website of a sister church. And they sent a message to the email address they found.

Unbeknownst to them, the pastor of that church has been praying for their country for the last 12 months. Just interceding.

The couple, with their first child, arrived at their hostel and received the message left for them at the desk. In the morning, a family from the sister church fetched and brought them to the sanctuary.

For two hours, the foreigners became part of this big spiritual family. They sang. They worshipped. They prayed. Together. Despite the language barrier. Despite the differences in background, race, and features. These things don’t matter. They serve the same God. They are raising praises to the same Father.

And later, the fellowship continued on over lunch.

I do not know what the pastor was praying for specifically. I do not know what was the couple’s plan when they sent that email. I do know though that in God’s eyes, they are one family. And families take care of their own.

I do not know the next chapter of the story. I won’t speculate. I know that the God who orchestrated this unlikely connection is in control. His hand is on this earth. I am gratefully amazed.

American Dream by Casting Crowns

All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he's moving on full steam
He's chasing the American dream
And he's gonna give his family the finer things

Not this time son I've no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farther away

So He works all day and tries to sleep at night
He says things will get better;
Better in time

And he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin' crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

His American Dream is beginning to seem
More and more like a nightmare
With every passing day
"Daddy, can you come to my game?"
"Oh Baby, please don't work late."
Another wasted weekend
And they are slipping away

'Cause he works all day and lies awake at night
He tells them things will get better
It'll just take a little more time

He used to say, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins"
But if he loses his soul, what has he gained in the end
I'll take a shack on the rock
Over a castle in the sand
Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It's not getting any better
Looks like he's running out of time
'Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands
And he poured all he had in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands

Responsibilities

During a friend’s birthday, something he said struck a chord in me. He said something about the young emulating what we do.

I have known about this ever since a task over a group of young ones was given to me. I wonder though how many amongst us really know how careful we must be in everything we do.

For eyes see what we do. Ears hear what we say. Minds process the actions we make. Hearts learn from the experiences they get.

They are watching. Even if we do not notice. They are there. An audience to our lives.

We must be careful. Impressionable souls may soar and fail because of our examples.

Ode to my Pentax Series II

Chosen amongst numerous possibilities
Decision turner : I knew your predecessor
And from then on, you accompanied me.
Whereverer, all over.
Birthday celebrations you recorded.
Embassy events with cocktail dresses you captured.

Though you are just a point-and-shoot,
You helped me captivate the beauty of the world.
Turned me from having my picture taken
To capturing the images of the world.

But things happen.
Unexpected, sad accidents.
And so now you are so far away,
Awaiting the day the you can zoom your lens again.

Until that day comes
I feel a certain emptiness
For how will I catch the representation of life?
Or document various episodes of our existence?

Goodbye for now.
I hope to have your company soon.
Don’t take too long.
Nikon D40 is just around the corner.

Lion Chaser Manifesto

Quit living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-ordained passions. Go after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Keep asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God. Stop pointing out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the past and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking risks. Expand your horizons. Accumulate experiences. Enjoy the journey. Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like today is the first day and last day of your life. Don't let what's wrong with you keep you from worshiping what's right with God. Burn sinful bridges. Blaze new trails. Criticize by creating. Worry less about what people think and more about what God thinks. Don't try to be who you're not. Be yourself. Laugh at yourself. Quit holding out. Quit holding back. Quit running away.

Chase the lion.
